CULTURAL WONDERS IN THE MIX
Music & Sound: I Make Audio
Artist: Naomi Kashiwagi/Huw Bunford
Client: Manchester University
I collaborated with Artist Naomi Kashiwagi and Huw Bunford of The Super Furry Animals to create a series of sound and music commissions for the University of Manchester.
I was commissioned to create three pieces using found sounds, ambient and location recordings taken by Huw and Naomi from three of the University of Manchester's cultural resources. I then turned the recordings into compositions, using various sampling techniques to turn oblique sounds into percussive and non-percussive instruments.
In the Mix’ is a series of music/sound/art commissions and events that will animate the University of Manchester’s cultural resources including Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester Museum, John Rylands Library, Jodrell Bank and Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama.
The commissioned soundscapes and bank of recorded found sounds are inspired and influenced by electronic music producer, Delia Derbyshire, whose archive has been recently acquired by the University of Manchester.
